The rumors flew today
All I did was watch and listen
I did nothing to stop them
I laughed with the rest!
Thinking something like that could never happen to me
As I listened and watched
A voice called my name
I looked around but there was no one there
I shrugged it off
Thinking it was nothing
Knowing it was something
What should I do, I thought
I don't even know them that well
It's not like they would ease my pain is something like this happened to me
So I let it go
I forgot about it
That night I had a dream
A horrible, frightening dream
Through my sleep I could feel my hands gripping my sheets
I dreamed that I was one of the people involved with the rumor
That I could see, hear and feel everything the girl in the rumor did
I dreamed that everyone was looking at her
I heard people laughing behind her back
I saw them whispering to each other as she passed by
I could feel her embarressment
Her hopes shattering, her insecurities rising
I could hear her thinking that if only she wasn't this well known
That if only she didn't have so many 'friends' and aquaintences
That if only she were one of the so-called 'nerds'
She would have been spared this humiliation
This wouldn't have happened to her
She wouldn't have to go through all this
And then in the dream I realized something...
I was feeling what she was
I was hearing what she was
I was thinking what she was
Because she was me
And in the dream, I knew that was not true
There was no way I could be this girl
I couldn't have possibly gone through all this
Afterall I was the one people told about the rumor
There was no way I was in it
How I wished to wake up!
I did everything I could!
I tried to will myself to awaken
I tried to scream myself awake!
But nothing worked
Then I finally gave up
And fell into a dreamless sleep
And when my alarm clock
It was then that I awakened
And suddenly remembered...
